Google Street View coming to Lake Placid

LAKE PLACID - Google Map's Street View is coming to Lake Placid, but it's bringing a new twist.

Google Map's Street View launched a new program May 1 which brings the Street View technology inside buildings.

The official program title is "Google Business Photos," and it will give the public the ability to have a look at the inside of a business as they are shopping online and forming their decisions on where to eat, play, shop and stay in an area. At the same time it gives businesses the ability to show off their establishment to prospective customers.

The Street View technology creates a 360-degree virtual tour of an establishment beginning on the street and progressing in and throughout the business.

It is an interactive experience for the consumers as they move about, pan 360 degrees up and down, and even zoom in on merchandise, decor or signs for a closer look.

The virtual tours can be searched and found on all connected devices, both mobile and stationary, and are directly incorporated into everything Google for the business: search, maps, Street View, Google Plus and place pages.

Businesses that participate in this program also benefit by having all of their Google search listings enhanced. When a person does a search for the business in any of Google's search services, the indoor Street View is displayed and people are invited to "See inside."

Jim Hilker is Google's certified photographer in the program serving upstate New York. Jim and his team have been cruising the state all summer getting qualified businesses photographed and integrated into the Street View indoors system.

They are scheduled to be in Lake Placid Sept. 13 through 17 to capture the inside of qualified businesses. Only a limited number of business can be included during this trip to the area. Hilker recommends that interested business register online as soon as possible. Then a team member will follow up right away with further details.

Anyone with questions may contact the team at 607-227-1367.

Go to www.streetviewindoors.com to see a listing of qualified businesses in the Lake Placid area and to register a business for inclusion or for needed Google Map edits. On this website, users will also find more than 70 New York businesses already included in the program and how their indoor Street View works.
