To the editor:
On Aug. 12, the Saranac Lake Figure Skating Academy hosted its sixth annual Golf Classic at Saranac Inn Golf & Country Club. Thanks to the generosity of our loyal friends and supporters, it was once again a tremendous success!
Congratulations to the first-place team of Bran Grant, Shawn Grant, Jim Kane and Ben Gaebel, as well as the second-place team of Jim Barcomb, Peter Whitbeck, Jim Neverett and Plattsburgh Mayor Don Kasprzak. Third-place winners were Zack Quinn, Dana Tarantelli, Pat Sauers and John Dukett, and individual contest winners were Mike Orticelle, Ed Gibbs and Michael Hill.
On behalf of the SLFLA's Board of Directors and all of our skaters and their families, a huge thank-you goes to Jim Connors and Chris Stevens at Saranac Inn who have graciously gone out of their way, year after year, to help us with our event as well as cook a great meal for our golfers! We are so grateful for all your efforts to make this a successful fundraiser for us.
Also, we cannot thank enough the wonderful group of local businesses and individuals who supported us through hole sponsorships, donations of prizes or other financial contributions. They are inundated with requests for many charitable causes throughout the year, and I never cease to be amazed by the continuous generosity of our wonderful community! THANK YOU to Saranac Inn Golf & Country Club, SportsInsurance.com, Edward Jones Investments, North Woods Engineering, Trudeau Institute and the Woodlands, the Bells, Upstate Auto, Paul J. Mitchell Logging, Lakeview Deli, Little Italy, Whiteface Club & Resort, the Duffys, DownHill Grill, Blue Moon Cafe, the Wigmores, Ona Allen, Guide Boat Realty, the Broxes, The Market Place, the Byrnes, the Wiles, Mountain Mist, Caffe Rustica, Upstate Vinyl Graphics, the Kreuzers, Upscale Resale, Salon Mirage, Great Adirondack Steak & Seafood, Placid Planet, the Cohens, Saranac Lake Discount Liquors, Price Chopper and Tammy Lelande.
Finally, thank you so much to all the golfers - many of whom traveled from Potsdam, Plattsburgh, Peru and beyond to join us, as well as many who have not missed a tournament since its beginning! Thank you for making the day so much fun for all of us involved, and thank you for your continues support of our program.
To date, the SLFSA Golf Classic has raised nearly $20,000 to help fund our Learn-to-Skate program. Thank you again to all those who helped us attempt to make figure skating accessible to many children, not just the privileged few.
