Two forest rangers rescued a man on Jay Mountain Wednesday night.
Doug March, 62, of Bloomingdale, had been hiking the mountain when he lost his way. He wasn't carrying a map, compass or light source.
At 8:15 p.m., March called Essex County 911, which transferred him to a state Department of Environmental Conservation dispatcher in Ray Brook.
The dispatcher was able to determine March's location using the man's cell phone and direct the forest rangers to him.
The forest rangers met March at midnight and escorted him to the trailhead, which they reached at 1:20 a.m. Thursday.
