Wiseguys claims women's softball title

SARANAC LAKE - They entered the playoffs seeded third, but came through in the postseason as the Wiseguys women's softball players captured the championship in the Saranac?Lake women's softball league.

Facing Guideboat Reality in last week's best-of three championship series played in a span of three nights, Wiseguys dropped the first game and came back with two straight wins to earn the crown.

In the first matchup played Monday, Aug. 13, Guideboat turned up the heat on offense to post a 24-8 win and take a 1-0 lead in the series.

Wiseguys, who feature players from Lake Placid, then turned the tables, winning 4-1 on Aug. 15 to even the series and clinching the title the following day with a 12-8 triumph in the rubber game.

The games were played at the Petrova softball diamond in Saranac?Lake. Guideboat finished runner-up after knocking off regular-season champion Captain Cook's in the semifinals.
