To the editor:
As councilman for the Town of North Elba, I am quite frequently involved in shared interests of North Elba, the village of Saranac Lake and the town of Harrietstown. The Adirondack Regional Airport, Empire State Games, Saranac Lake Area Youth Program and Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce are just a few. It takes representatives from each board to collectively make decisions that best represent their constituents. In most cases, working jointly isn't that difficult, but over the past few years, it's no secret that relations between the village of Saranac Lake and the town of Harrietstown are strained at best. A poor economy pushes every village/town board to redefine their limits.
My decision to endorse Tom Catillaz for supervisor of the town of Harrietstown hinges on his years of experience and my personal opinion that a presence of a "former" mayor and trustee can only help the process of better joint relations between village and town. I look to Tom's integrity to find the wisdom and leadership that the taxpayers deserve.
Make no mistake, both candidates are more than capable, but to me, the most pressing issue is a better relationship between town and village that will ultimately better serve the taxpayer - and I believe Tom can bridge that gap.
