Observatory to dedicate telescope

August 8, 2012
Adirondack Daily Enterprise

TUPPER LAKE - The Adirondack Public Observatory plans to hold a dedication ceremony for a new telescope Tuesday.

The telescope is being donated to the APO by Al Nagler in memory of his sister Trudy Deutsch, a former longtime Tupper Lake resident.

Nagler got interested in astronomy at the age of 11 after his father took him to the Hayden Planetarium in New York City, and built his own telescope while he was attending the Bronx High School of Science. An avid amateur stargazer, Nagler has won prizes for and written articles about his experiences with the telescope and stargazing.

His work with his telescope led Nagler to work for optical companies where he designed lenses, plus a projection system that was used by NASA for the Apollo moonlaning simulators.
