LAKE PLACID - The Whiteface Lodge recently announced the appointment of Nicholas Batey as its new executive chef.
In his new position, Batey is responsible for overseeing all food and beverage operations at the Lodge, including its main dining area, Kanu; its popular and more casual Kanu Lounge; and its exclusive lakefront beach area,
Batey's 15-plus years of culinary experience includes overseeing the food and beverage operations of one of the few dual brand Hilton properties: the Hilton Garden Inn and Homewood Suites of Rockville, Md.
Batey's restaurant experience is composed of working at high-profile culinary establishments in Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York and Florida. In Maryland, Batey served in senior positions for several renowned restaurants including Clyde's of Columbia, Tower Oaks Lodge and That's Amore. In New York City, he served as sous chef under the acclaimed Chef David Walzog at the Michael Jordan Steakhouse.
At one point during his career, Batey applied his culinary expertise and entrepreneurial zeal and opened The Bicycle Restaurant - a family enterprise that quickly became one of the areas most popular dining attractions. This highly-rated Zagat restaurant was voted as one of Baltimore's "Top 25 Restaurants" and was also featured on one of Rachael Ray's "Tasty Travel" television segments.
