LAKE PLACID - A local man faces a felony charge after he allegedly had sexual intercourse with a teenage girl.

Ray Brook-based state police charged Nathan D. Pratt, 30, of Lake Placid, with third-degree rape, a class E felony, at 5:45 p.m. Thursday. The charge stems from an investigation into a sexual offense reported Thursday afternoon in the town of North Elba.

According to police, investigators received a call from Adirondack Medical Center in Lake Placid of a 16-year-old female reporting a rape. A subsequent investigation led police to Pratt, who was interviewed and taken into custody.

Police said Pratt knew the victim but was not in a relationship with her. The victim was examined by doctors, but police weren't sure if she had suffered any physical harm. She is too young to legally consent, but police added that she also did not actually consent to having sex with Pratt.

Pratt was arraigned in North Elba town court and remanded to Essex County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond; he was still in jail as of Friday afternoon. He's scheduled to reappear in court at a later date.
