Small-town kindness

August 2, 2012
Adirondack Daily Enterprise

To the editor:

It has taken me four months, to the day, to write this letter of heartfelt thanks.

Never would I ever have imagined how much the friends, neighbors, customers and community as a whole have helped me get through this time of such sadness with the loss of my dear husband, Jeff Rock.

From the Lake Placid Volunteer Ambulance crew responding in minutes on that spring Sunday morning, the local and state police, my "special" neighbors (you know who you are) to Dr. Waickman, ICU nurses, Chandler Ralph, the crew in oncology and the entire staff at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, my friends and staff at Lake Placid Flower & Gift, who pulled off miracles. Thanks. Mark and Reggie at Clark Funeral Home and Andy Perkins and the amazing staff at High Peaks Resort. Perfect strangers, even.

It is unfortunate that it takes the death of a loved one to really realize how valuable life is, each and every day. As well as appreciating the individuals and businesses in these towns (Lake Placid and Saranac Lake), I will never forget the gestures of kindness and thoughtfulness that have surrounded me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. My love for this small town will only continue to grow. I write this letter with much gratitude and heartfelt thanks.
