SARANAC LAKE - It was hard to tell how much they were thinking about skiing while basking in the warm sun, but between 550 and 600 people came out to the Summer Ski Jam Sunday, organizers say.
The event was held at Mount Pisgah Ski Center, the village's Alpine (downhill) venue, but it was a fundraiser for Saranac Lake's other ski area, Dewey Mountain Recreation Area, which has Nordic (cross-country) ski, snowshoe and mountain bike trails. The Dewey Mountain Friends group is trying to build a new lodge to replace two small buildings that aren't in such good shape anymore. Pisgah had such a lodge until a 1990s community effort raised enough money to build the current one, which hosted Sunday's Summer Ski Jam.
Six local musical artists performed at the festival, and there was a wide array of food and beverages.

Mary Thill of Dewey Mountain Friends said this morning that organizers haven't finished adding up the revenue yet, but she said they know it did well. They are grateful to the community, she said.
