The 2012 Saranac Lake Redskins All-Star Baseball team, from a fan's perspective:
It's the first inning; the competition sends their lead-off batter to the plate. The batter receives a quick dose of reality as the Saranac Lake pitcher immediately starts throwing some "heat." A loud slap can be heard as the pitch hits the catcher's mitt. Three quick outs, and half an inning is over.
The Redskins come to bat. First batter is quick on his feet, can turn a base hit into a double real fast. Then the power-switch is turned on for the core of the batting lineup. Batter after batter comes to the plate, swinging like the Yankees' "Murderers' Row" of 1927. You sit there watching, wondering which batter will "blast" one over the fence. The Redskins score a few runs and take the lead before giving up their turn at bat.
The opponents try to fight back, but it's another quick half-inning. Lights out!
Redskins attack again ... and again. By the third inning they're getting warmed up. The bats start "singing." They have runners on base, and you hear that sound; you know it's a "long bomb" over the fence.
The opponents eventually start to rally in the hopes of a comeback, but the Redskins work hard to shut them down. Professional-looking catches in center field. Double plays. Hard-to-hit pitches. The Redskins continue to "bring it" with heart, a fight to the very last out. The fans cheer once again. Another win!
This team is truly unique, so talented, a special group of athletes. The parents carry their birth certificates to the games because this team is so strong, and the kids are so big for this age group, that other teams are questioning their ages. They wonder, "How can this be?" And our answer is, "We are the Redskins ... the mighty, mighty Redskins!"

Give these kids a pat on their backs when you see them: Ben Salls, Christian Thomas, Drew Sturgeon, Casey Sturgeon, Joe Viscardo, Matt Kratts, Brett Dawson, Kyle Woodruff, Jarrett Ashton, Branden Myers, Zach Ellsworth, J.B. Chapin and Dalton Baker.
This is the team that has brought back the Redskins name, and they are truly representing with near perfection, making us "old-school" athletes proud! They are currently undefeated, taking the championship trophy in the Malone and Ogdensburg tournaments. They will make their next appearance this Saturday and Sunday in the Plattsburgh tournament, possibly the most competitive tournament. Wish them and their coaches luck: head coach Kurt Sturgeon, assistant coaches Jon Kratts and Ron Thomas.
