Rustic Riders to perform at benefit concert

July 19, 2012
Adirondack Daily Enterprise

SARANAC INN - The Church of the Ascension in Saranac Inn is sponsoring a special concert at 5 p.m. Sunday, July 22 to benefit the Saranac Lake Food Pantry and the Upper Saranac Lake Foundation.

The Rustic Riders will play music for the spirit and soul in the historic log church built in 1884 by Branch and Callanan. As noted by Carol Bruce in an Adirondack Daily Enterprise article on the 100th anniversary of the church in 1984, the Church of the Ascension is situated on a hill near the Saranac Inn state boat launch "in a clearing surrounded by large, stately evergreen and maple trees. These give one the feeling of being in a place apart from the hustle and bustle of the world." The stain glass depicts not only traditional themes, but also small Adirondack animals and in one window a former pastor sitting in a rowboat.

The Rustic Riders play new music with traditional roots. Lisa Meissner's songs explore the journeys with others, the world and creation. Sometimes they get you dancing and singing; other times they invite you to pause, reflect and renew. They are filled with her experience of music from many peoples, times and places and they move the spirit to new understanding. The Rustic Riders have two CDs. "Among These Hills" also features Dan Duggan on a guitars and piano. Bill Chamberlain on mandolin, mandola and banjo, Sue Grimm on flute and Henry Jankiewicz on fiddle. Both this and their first CD "Hearing Hearts" have been well received and have had some nice airplay across the U.S. and Canada. The Rustic Riders have been performing in a various combinations since 1996 and since Lisa began writing new music in 2006 she has written more than 100 songs.

The concert is free but donations will be accepted for the Saranac Lake Food Pantry and the Upper Saranac Lake Foundation.
