LAKE CLEAR - The Lake Clear Lodge & Retreat has been awarded Four Green Leaves from the Audubon Green Leaf Program, announced Fred Realbuto, Audubon International's director of New York operations, at the Tomorrow's Tourism Conference held recently at the Lake Clear Lodge & Retreat.

The Audubon Green Leaf program combines environmental awareness and education with best management practices tailored for hospitality businesses. Members are given several educational materials about how to improve their eco-efficiency before submitting their application for an onsite audit. Ratings range from one to five stars.

Earning a high rating confirms the Lake Clear Lodge's commitment to water quality, water conservation, waste minimization, resource conservation, and energy efficiency.

"Congratulations on all of your efforts in advancing the sustainability of your remarkable facility," Realbuto said at the conference. "There is no doubt that you are one of the leaders in your region, a shining example of best environmental practices and conservation of your beautiful resources."

"We are pleased that our nearly 50 year commitment to sustainable practices is being recognized," said Cathy Hohmeyer, executive chef and co-proprietor of the Lake Clear Lodge & Retreat. "A major part of our efforts is education and outreach. Our cooking classes, food buyers club and coming 100 Mile Store is all about our 'going beyond local' philosophy. The Lodge has recently created 'interpretive dinners' that explain why certain ingredients are used and how they are cooked to maximize their nutrients."

In addition, the Lodge has recently created an interpretive trail system and sources many of its building materials from milled wood off the property.

The Lake Clear Lodge & Retreat is a 25-acre resort on the shores of Lake Clear.
