STAMS, Austria - Saranac Lake's Peter Frenette is one of a trio of United States ski jumpers who are competing here today and Sunday in the summer Continental Cup.
The venue is located in the upper Inntal Valley and is a mecca for ski jumping, tucked amid the majestic high peaks about 35 kilometers west of Innsbruck.
In addition to Frenette, Nick Alexander and Anders Johnson are also jumping in the event. All three Americans are Olympians who competed in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Games.
U.S. Coach Clint Jones is on hand and said on Thursday the team jumped alongside national squads from Austria, Germany and Sweden. Jones told the USASJ News Bureau he was pleased with how the training sessions have gone, saying, "All three of our guys jumped really well today - great jumps - so everyone seems in very good spirits." Thursday morning's training session included weights, followed by a mountain adventure in the afternoon. More jump training was slated for Friday.
All competitions in Stams are being held on the Large Hill, known as the Brunnentalschanze.
The U.S. team will stay in Europe following the weekend events in Austria, and will be competing later in Kranj, Slovakia and Wisla, Poland.
