Laura Chapot takes second win at horse show

LAKE PLACID - Laura Chapot of Neshanic Station, N.J., won the Beacon Hill Horse Transportation 1.45m Power and Speed Stake Thursday at the 43rd annual Lake Placid Horse Show, Presented by Sea Shore Stables, LLC.

Riding Quointreau Un Prince, Chapot was one of eight entries to qualify for the speed section of the course by completing the 10-jump power portion without penalty at the North Elba Show Grounds. The two-time Lake Placid Grand Prix champion then finished the seven-jump speed section fault-free in 30.206 seconds to claim the win.

Placing second was Johnathan Corrigan who finished the speed section with four faults in 31.878 seconds on Usandra.

Chapot was also victorious in the 1.30m WPTZ News Channel 5 Jumper Class where she topped a field of 57 entries on Carpe Diem. In the 1.40m High Peaks Resort Open Jumper Class, Luis Larrazabal took the win on G&C Lepanto.

The Lake Placid Horse Show continues through Sunday when it culminates with the $75,000 Horseware Ireland Grand Prix of Lake Placid. It is followed by the 35th annual I Love New York Horse Show, July 3-8, which is highlighted by the $75,000 Woodlea Farms Grand Prix, Presented by Sea Shore Stables, LLC., on Saturday, July 7. Following that competition, the Richard and Diana Feldman Perpetual Challenge Trophy for Excellence will be awarded to the rider who has won the most combined prize money in Lake Placid's two Grand Prix.

For those interested in what goes on behind the scenes at the Lake Placid Horse Shows, guided walking tours, sponsored by The Lake Placid Summit Resort Hotel and Suites, are available Wednesday, Thursday and Friday each week starting at 11:30 am. The cost is $1 per person. Tours depart from the Lake Placid Horse Show Retail Booth.
