SARANAC LAKE -Valeda C. Chartier, 95, of 78 Will Rogers Drive, Saranac Lake, died Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at Adirondack Medical Center.

Born in Carson Mines, Ontario on Nov. 29, 1916, she was the daughter of Alex and Dorina (DesJardin) Gravelle. She married Joseph Clayton Chartier on Feb. 7, 1938.

She was predeceased by her husband, Clayton, and two sisters Laura Gravelle and Yvonne Rivers and an infant brother.

She is survived by two sisters: Irene Spreeman of Oregon and Lucille Crago of Pennsylvania; one son Ronald Chartier and his wife Mary of North Carolina; one daughter Judith Chartier and her spouse Barbara Ryan of Bloomingdale; two grandsons; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

She lived most of her life in the Watertown and Adirondack Mountain region, enjoying outdoor activities including cross country skiing well into her seventies.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. At Val's request, there will be no services.
