The Essex County Drug Task Force has arrested three people for allegedly selling and possessing narcotics.
Law enforcement officials arrested Gregory A. Cadiz, 24, of Plattsburgh, Branden M. Bashaw, 25, of Bangor, and Brett M. Richardson, 24, of Lake Placid, on Tuesday and charged them with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, both class B felonies.
Lake Placid village police Chief Bill Moore told the Enterprise the three subjects were taken into custody following a year-long investigation into the sale and possession of cocaine and Ecstasy.
"This is part of our continuing fight in the war on drugs," he said.
Moore said investigations like this one "don't happen overnight." He said additional arrests are pending.
"We're going to continue to combat these people who feel they can sell drugs in Lake Placid," Moore said. "We're not going to tolerate it."
The three men were remanded to jail without bail and were scheduled to be arraigned in Essex County Court before Justice Richard Meyer on Wednesday.
"Hopefully this sends a message that if you sell drugs in our communities, eventually you're going to get caught," Moore said.
The Essex County Drug Task Force include the Lake Placid, Saranac Lake and Ticonderoga police departments, as well as New York State Police and the Essex County Sheriff's Department.
