SARANAC LAKE -DiAne L. DeLair, a longtime resident of Saranac Lake, died following a short illness on June 21, 2012. Surrounded by her husband, children and youngest sister, DiAne passed peacefully during a brief stay at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center in Wilmington, N.C.
After 27 years of marriage, DiAne and her husband, architect Ron DeLair, moved in retirement to 3870 Timber Stream Dr., Southport, N.C., in October 2011. While a resident of Saranac Lake, DiAne was active in the Village Improvement Society (VIS), serving as president of that organization for several terms. DiAne also delivered Meals on Wheels in Saranac Lake until she was no longer able.
Born on Dec. 23, 1943, DiAne was the eldest daughter of Lewis "Bus" and Norma Brown Jenny of Rome, N.Y., where she graduated from Rome Free Academy and Mohawk Valley Community College. She worked as a special needs provider in the public and private sector for nearly 20 years before marrying Ron in 1985 and moving to Saranac Lake. She is survived by her husband, Ron DeLair; one daughter, Robin Hoke and her husband Chuck of Springboro, Ohio; a son, Dale Trexler and his wife Leslie of Stafford, Va.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gayle Gillander and her husband Bill of Leesburg, Fla., and Karen Cipollone and her husband Carl of Sparta, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.
A local Mass and committal service will be held later this summer at the convenience of the family. Friends wishing to make contributions in DiAne's memory may consider the VIS or High Peaks Hospice and Palliative Care in Saranac Lake.
