To the editor:
The 2012 Lake Placid Film Forum had something for everyone. The forum opened with an outdoor evening screening of the buoyant "Girl Walk//All Day" in Mid's Park on Wednesday June 13. The weekend program included classic silent film, first-run independent films, new works by a variety of emerging filmmakers and the ever-popular "Sleepless in Lake Placid" 24-hour student filmmaking competition. The highlight of the weekend was a lengthy and provocative panel discussion about the future of local and rural theaters in the face of the juggernaut of digital conversion that threatens their survival.
We are very grateful for the support and assistance we received from our sponsors, our volunteers, our staff, and those of you who opened your homes and businesses to the young filmmakers. Most of all we appreciate the support of our loyal members and others who come out to attend and participate in our events, especially the dozens who braved the beautiful summer weather on Saturday, June 16, to attend the digital conversion discussion at the Palace Theatre. Thank you.
