Holiday cheer lasts through the summer at Santa’s Workshop

May 30, 2012
Adirondack Daily Enterprise

Nestled on the slopes of Whiteface Mountain near Lake Placid in New York's breathtaking Adirondack Park is North Pole, N.Y., the home of Santa's Workshop: America's first theme park.

Come stroll through this charming fairyland, chat with Santa and take some time to pet and feed his live reindeer team.

Live shows and musical reviews, presented by the Mother Goose Guild, are scheduled throughout the day, featuring Frosty the Snowman, Chris Moose, Rowdy the Rascal Reindeer and all their storybook friends. A special treat, the picturesque Nativity Pageant, portraying the story of the first Christmas, unfolds on a shady hillside as a beautiful reminder of the true meaning of the season.

Among the many amusements throughout the village are the child-friendly rides such as the Christmas Carousel, Santa's Sleigh Coaster, and the every-popular Candy Cane Express train. Visit and browse through our specialty shops, offering a wide array of tempting treats, gifts and reminders of a magical day at the North Pole. Visit and chat with the candy maker as she crafts those scrumptious chocolate delights. Grab a homemade snack at Santa's Bakery, visit with the toymaker at the Toymaker's shop or browse the wondrous World of Christmas for that special Christmas gift. These shops have something for visitors both young and young at heart.

For a relaxing break, sample a tasty lunch at Mother Hubbard's Restaurant. Make reservations to join Santa and his friends for Santa's Character Breakfast each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday during July and August. Don't forget to take a few minutes during your visit to banter back and forth with Tannenbaum, the Talking Christmas Tree as well as Santa's "barnyard friends" where you can feed the baby pigs and calves.

All in all, Santa's Workshop has something for everyone and is a perfect way to spend a memorable day while visiting the area.

Santa's Workshop is located approximately 30 minutes off of Interstate 87, exit 30 and just 12 miles outside the village of Lake Placid in the Essex County town of Wilmington.

The theme park opens for its 63nd season June 26 and remains open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. until Sept. 1. Santa's Workshop will also be open Sept. 1 and Oct. 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Monday, Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
