PLATTSBURGH - The Plattsburgh baseball team scored four runs in the fifth inning and three in the sixth to overtake the lead on the way to an 8-7 victory over Saranac Lake in the quarterfinal round of the Section VII, Class B playoffs.
The Red Storm built a 5-0 lead after scoring four runs in the top of the fourth inning, but eventually relinquished the lead in the final innings.
"All year long, we've been haunted by collapses after holding leads," said Saranc Lake coach Bill Wilson. "The guys left the field with their heads hung low, but should be proud of their outstanding play this season."
Saranac Lake finished the season with a 5-11 record.
Jon McCabe had a single and a double and Nick Bayruns had two hits to lead the Red Storm offensively. Logan Wood, Tyler Curry and Steve Rodriguez each added a double.
Matt Phelan threw six innings for Saranac Lake, striking out three and walking three in the losing effort. Grant Strack threw the final inning in relief.
Plattsburgh outhit the Red Storm 13-10 and benefitted from three Saranac Lake errors.
