MORIAH - The Lake Placid softball team held off a late rally by Moriah to secure a 5-3 victory in a Section VII, Class C semfinal game Friday.
With the win, the Blue Bombers advance to the championship game where they will meet the winner of Friday's other semifinal game between Northern Adirondack and Ticonderoga.
Lake Placid built a 5-1 lead with two runs in the first inning, one in the fifth and two more in the top of the sixth. The Vikings scored twice in the bottom of the sixth, but were held scoreless in their final at-bat to set the score at 5-3.

Senior Ayla Thompson went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a triple to lead the way offensively for the Blue Bombers. Dani Balestrini had two RBI, a triple and reached base on each of her three plate appearances while scoring a run. Haley Brandes and Payton Barney accounted for the other two Lake Placid runs.
Lake Placid improved to 6-7 overall on the season with the victory.
