NORWOOD - The Tupper Lake softball season came to an end Thursday with a 14-5 loss to Norwood-Norfolk in the semfinals of the Section X, Class C tournament.

Norwood-Norfolk, the No. 2 seed in the tournament, advanced to the final where the Flyers will meet St. Lawrence Central on Wednesday at SUNY Potsdam. Tupper Lake finished the season with a 7-7 overall record.

Carley Aldridge, Julia Bradley and Skyler Trivieri had two hits apiece for Tupper Lake on Thursday.

Mickey Frego and Cortney Harvey both doubled for the Flyers, who improved to 10-6 overall with the victory.

BASEBALL

Norwood-Norfolk 11, Tupper Lake 1

NORWOOD - The Tupper Lake baseball team ran into a strong pitching performance by Norwood-Norfolk hurler Jordan Lashomb and had to settle for an 11-1 loss in a Section X, Class C semifinal matchup on Thursday.

The top-seeded Flyers will play for the championship Wednesday at Clarkson University against St. Lawrence Central. Tupper Lake, the No. 4 seed, finished the season 5-7.

Lashomb struck out eight Tupper Lake batters and gave up just one hit to earn the victory on the mound. Brandon Short took care of things on the offensive end with four singles.

TUPPER LAKE - Tupper Lake's Lindsay Maroun, Samantha Ormsby and Hannah Klossner each won three events Thursday as the Lumberjacks track and field teams took on Norwood-Norfolk and Salmon River.

Ormsby won the triple jump (31 feet, 9 inches), the long jump (13-10) and ran the opening leg of the 400 relay that crossed the line in 54.40 seconds.

Klossner was also part of the winning relay, in addition to taking first in the 800 (2:38.16) and the high jump (5-0). Maroun won the 100 in 13.44 and the 200 in 27.58.

Tupper Lake senior Bryan Geiger placed first in the high jump (5-0) and was second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.89 seconds.
