Lumberjacks softball rolls over Cougars

RUSSELL - Tupper Lake pitcher Kelsie St. Louis struck out four, walked two and gave up five hits to lead the Lumberjacks to a 10-0 Northern Athletic Conference East Division victory over Edwards-Knox on Monday.

Carley Aldridge and Jesse Weigand each had two RBI to pace Tupper Lake offensively. Sam Sanford, Jordyn Staves and Skylar Trivieri each drove in one run.

The Lumberjacks wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, racking up four runs in the top of the first inning and another in the second to take command.

Claire Davis led Edwards-Knox offensively with a double and single.

Tupper Lake improved to 5-4 in NAC games and 7-4 overall with the win. Edwards-Knox is 1-6 in conference games and 2-9 overall.

Saranac 19, Lake Placid 0

LAKE PLACID - The Saranac softball team left no doubt Monday, beating Lake Placid 19-0 to lock up the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Division I regular season championship.

The Chiefs (13-1) scored 15 runs over the first three innings and the Blue Bombers never responded.

Kourtnie Campbell recorded six strikeouts and allowed just one hit to earn the pitching win for Saranac, which is ranked No. 12 in the latest state poll.

Brooke Reid connected for Lake Placid's only hit.

GOLF

Lake Placid 5, Peru 1

LAKE PLACID - Pat Kane and Kiefer Casler each shot 42 to win their matches and lead the Lake Placid golf team to a Champlain Valley Athletic Conference victory over Peru on Monday at Craig Wood Golf Course.

Miles Lussi and Dustin Jacques weren't far behind with matching 43s to account for two more points for the Blue Bombers. Lucas Strack shot 46 to secure the fifth point.

Matt Nugent picked up the lone win for the Indians, carding a 45 to beat Nick Reid who shot a 47 in the No. 2 position.

Lake Placid improved to 5-4 with the victory and will host AuSable Valley on Wednesday at Craig Wood.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Massena 18, Saranac Lake 4

SARANAC LAKE - The Massena girls lacrosse team surged to an 18-4 victory over Saranac Lake on Monday at Schroeter's Field.

With the win, the Red Raiders continued their tear through Section X opponents, improving their league record to 7-0 (12-2 overall).

Laura Stanton, Kylie Sapone, Kaileigh Woodruff and Elena Beideck accounted for the Saranac Lake goals. Sheila Decker made five saves and Katey Snyder stopped seven shots for the Red Storm.

Erin Francis and Megan Poupore each had five goals and two assists to lead the way for Massena.

Saranac Lake is 3-9.

BASEBALL

Saranac 6, Lake Placid 5

SARANAC - The Saranac baseball team scored an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth inning to down Lake Placid 6-5 in a Champlain Valley Athletic Conference game Monday.

With the score knotted at 5-5, Jake Liberty reached base on a walk then came around to score after a throwing error. The Blue Bombers were unable to scratch out a run in the top of the seventh and had to settle for the loss.

It was the ninth win in a row for the Chiefs, who improved to 9-2 in league games and 9-6 overall. Lake Plaic is 2-8 in league games and 3-11 overall.

The Blue Bombers got on the board early with three runs in the top of the first inning and another in the third. Saranac responded with two runs in the first and two more in the third.

Ryan Meyer had two singles and a double and Daryl Breir added two singles to lead Lake Placid offensively. J.P. Morrison pitched a complete game in the losing effort.

Kasey Favreau had three hits and Brady Burleigh had two to pace the Saranac attack.

Lake Placid outhit the Chiefs 8-7.

Peru 5, Lake Placid 0

Girls

Lake Placid 3, Peru 2

PERU - The Lake Placid girls tennis team picked up its fourth win of the season Monday, downing Peru 3-2.

Natalia Smith and Victoria O'Leary secured singles' victories and Serena Hallowell and Brenna Garrett won in a tiebreaker at first doubles to account for the Blue Bombers' points.

Smith won her first singles match 6-1, 6-1 and O'Leary won a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 match at third singles.

The Lake Placid girls team improved to 4-1 on the season, while boys dropped to 0-4.
