LAKE PLACID - On Tuesday, we lost our most treasured person, Thomas M. Riedl, 48, of Lake Placid.
Tom was born Oct. 24, 1963, in Bayonne, N.J. He is the son of Hans and Ursula (Brath).
Tom moved to Lake Placid in 1976. Tom enjoyed the Adirondacks and became a man of the woods. He learned to live with nature in his own way. Riedlmeyer loved hunting, fishing, campfires, close friends, fast cars, family, animals and working with pride in each project he undertook.
Unorthodox in his methods but strong with his convictions, he attacked each day. He looked and saw the best in each person. Laughter was his medicine, friends and family were his foundation.
Tom had an amazing, uncompromised courage, dedication and strength as he battled cancer. His grace, courage, poise and humor infected everyone. On April 24, 2012, Thomas passed leaving behind the people so dear to him: his wife Tammy; his daughters: Matoka, Jocelyn and Jamie; his mother Ursula; his father Hans; his sisters: Theresa, Irene and Susan; his granddaughter Sophie; his nieces: Amber, Ali, Selena, Tara, Cheyenne, Sydney and Tori; his nephews: Lyle, Brandon, Lance, Aiden, Keegan, Kurt, Merritt, Austin and Wyatt; his great-niece, Emma; his mother-in-law Sandy; and his father-in-law Allen. He is also survived by his beloved brothers-in-law Damon, Shawn and Lance; his sister-in-law Sam; his devoted dog Nikia; and so many beloved and cherished friends so numerous to mention.
Tom wished to thank all of you who have helped him and his family. He continues to share his energy and love for life through us and with us all each day. Live life to the fullest, forever in our hearts, always on our minds. "Exit the Warrior ..."
A celebration of Tom's life will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at the Comfort Inn conference center, Saranac Avenue, Lake Placid.
Friends wishing to help our family offset the cost of the "Celebration of Tom's Life" may make donations to Tammy Riedl, 13 Desiree Lane, Lake Placid, NY 12946 in lieu of flowers.
