Carousel volunteers step it up

April 13, 2012

SARANAC LAKE - Volunteers on Thursday were busy painting and preparing for flooring to be installed in the Adirondack Carousel building in William Morris Park.

It was part of a work ramp-up in anticipation of the hoped-for opening on Memorial Day weekend - and more immediately, for the expected arrival of the carousel mechanism next week. Once that's assembled, the meticulously carved, colorfully painted wooden animals can be arrayed on the merry-go-round.

More volunteers are needed next week, from Monday to Friday, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., according to Marge Glowa of Onchiota, one of the project's leading organizers. She said there's wood to stain, windows and doors to install, and trim and wainscoting to put up; woodworkers are needed to cut the trim.
