TLHS’s LaMere to perform with Sound of America

April 10, 2012
Adirondack Daily Enterprise

TUPPER LAKE - Danielle LaMere, daughter of Julie LaMere Dukett and Jeffrey P. LaMere of Tupper Lake, has been selected to perform with a national performing organization known as the Sound of America Honor Band and Chorus.

Danielle has held the title role in the Tupper Lake High School musical the last two years and participated in the Area All-State mixed chorus last November. She is also a member of the Tupper Lake chapter of National Honor Society and is currently ranked in the top five of her junior class.

She will join other select musicians chosen from applicants representing nearly every state when the Sound of America begins its 2012 European Concert tour this July. Selection into the Sound of America membership is a distinguished honor for all participants. All applicants are carefully screened and chosen after a rigid character and musical evaluation. Danielle is the only student chosen to participate from within the Adirondack Park for the 2012 concert tour.

All student performers will meet on the campus of Elizabethtown College, Elizabethtown, Pa. on June 28.

After four days of intensive rehearsal and orientation, the group will depart via jet from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York for Frankfurt, Germany. The group is scheduled to present nine performances in some of Europe's finest concert halls and major cathedrals during its 23-day concert tour.

The students will experience the cultures of six countries: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, France, and Luxembourg. Some of the locations that will be visited during the tour are Paris, Salzburg, Cortina, Stress, Verona, Rothenburg, Grindelwald and La Chaux-de-Fonds.

Students who have qualified for the Sound of America membership are responsible for all costs involved with the trip. Frequently, however, local businesses and civic clubs who have an interest in helping deserving students will offer some financial sponsorship to the student representing their community.

Needing to raise the funds to cover the expense of her trip, Danielle is reaching out to her family, friends and the community. Anyone interested in contributing to help with the expenses of this unexpected honor can send their tax deductible contribution to Danielle LaMere/Sound of America, P.O. Box 1154 Tupper Lake, NY 12986.
