TUPPER LAKE - People who use village municipal electricity will face 5 percent rate increases this year, the final year in a three-year step increase plan.
The rates are being increased a total of 18 percent over the three years, with 8 percent in 2010 and 5 percent in 2011.
The rate increase will go into effect on April 1 and will appear on bills in May.
Village Electric Superintendent John Bouck told the village board at a Monday night meeting that the increase was approved by a previous board and that it will happen without the current board having any say in it.
This three-year increase was the first time municipal electric rates have increased in Tupper Lake since 1992.
