TUPPER LAKE - Eugene Donald LaRocque, 76, of Tupper Lake, died March 11, 2012, at St. Mary's Hospital, Leonardtown, Md.

Born Dec. 6, 1935 in Tupper Lake, Eugene was the son of Adolph and Ophelia (Bowery) LaRocque.

Gene entered the Air Force in 1956 and served for four years. He then spent many years as an iron ore miner in Tahawus, and then as maintenance at Mercy Care for the Adirondacks until he retired in 2010. He loved cooking, gardening, woodworking, coin collecting, reading and most of all spending time with family and friends. He had spent the last six months with his children and grandchildren in Maryland.

He is survived by his children: Darren and fiance Ashley Mashtare, of Tupper Lake; Sherrye and husband Greg Urtz, of Leonardtown, Md.; and Christopher and wife Jennifer, of Leonardtown, Md.; six grandchildren: Derek and Jason LaRocque, of Leonardtown, Md.; Jackson and Grace Urtz, of Leonardtown, Md.; Cadence LaRocque and Kylie Mashtare, of Tupper Lake; and one sister, Ruth Churco of Baldwinsville.

Gene was predeceased by his parents; three brothers: Raymond of Tupper Lake, Edward (better known to family as Teebum) of Newcomb, and Allen of Minerva; four sisters: Pearl Relyea of Tupper Lake, Sr. Yvonne LaRocque of Monroe, Cecile Poirier of Tupper Lake and Rachel Hazel of Davison, Mich.; and one granddaughter, Faith Noel Urtz of Leonardtown, Md.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 16 at the Stuart Fortune Keough Funeral Home, 24 Cliff Ave., Tupper Lake. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 17 at Alphonsus Catholic Church, Wawbeek Avenue, Tupper Lake. Interment will follow in the church cemetery in the spring.
