Mandate hearing set for Friday

LAKE PLACID - New York state's Mandate Relief Council will hold a public hearing here Friday morning.

The forum is set for 11 a.m. at the Conference Center at Lake Placid. Lt. Gov. Robert Duffy will host the meeting, which is open to the public and will be webcast live at www.governor.ny.gov/mandatereliefcouncil.

Essex County Board of Supervisors Chairman Randy Douglas told the Enterprise that officials from Essex, Clinton and Franklin counties will speak, and the public will have a chance to provide input as well.

State Sen. Betty Little, R-Queensbury, is a member of the council, which was created last year by Gov. Andrew Cuomo to cut back on unfunded mandates that drive up property taxes in villages, towns, cities, counties and school districts. Little said she's attended similar meetings in Syracuse, Utica and New Paltz, and that so far public input has been "enlightening."
