SARANAC LAKE - For Mary and Patrick Mercurio, the Adirondacks already hold a special place in their hearts. Their ties are more solidified now since they spoke their vows at 2 p.m. Feb. 11 at the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival Ice Palace.

The couple has visited all different areas of the Adirondacks together consistently during their four-year relationship, and when it came time to plan their intimate wedding they could not think of a more perfect place to tie the knot.

The newlyweds are both from Syracuse and Patrick is a Paul Smith's College alumni. Both have joined the Winter Carnival festivities on numerous occasions and this was their second time as a couple. They now plan to make the trip every year for their anniversary.

Mary and Patrick were wed by Judge Ken McLaughlin in a simple ceremony in front of the Ice Palace. Passersby stopped to watch the couple wed and started clapping and cheering when the couple had their first kiss.

The couple then joined friends to watch the parade and had their honeymoon in Lake Placid.
