State police in Lewis are investigating the death of a teenage girl from Essex County.

Investigators say 16-year-old Ashley M. Grady, of Lewis, was discovered in her bedroom at 618 Fox Run Road at about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday. Police said she was unresponsive and not breathing when she was found.

State police and personnel from the Elizabethtown-Lewis Rescue Squad performed life-saving measures on Grady but were unsuccessful. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Essex County Coroner Kelly Valentine.

An autopsy was performed Wednesday afternoon by Dr. C. Francis Varga at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. The cause and manner of death are pending toxicology results, police said in a press release.

State police Zone 3 Capt. John Tibbits told the Enterprise that investigators are still looking into the death. He said it's not suspected to be a murder.

"We're still waiting for the preliminary report from the investigators," he said.

Tibbits said Grady was a 10-grader at Elizabethtown-Lewis Central School. He said she lived at the home with her parents and a sister, who is 17.

Tibbits said police continue to investigate the death.
