RAY BROOK - A Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department pumper truck collided with the back of a sport utility vehicle while responding to a mutual aid call in Lake Placid around 3:20 p.m. Thursday.

Ray Brook-based state police said the crash took place near the Saranac Lake Golf Club on state Route 86 in Ray Brook and is still under investigation.

Troopers say a car was stopped in traffic, preparing to turn left into a private driveway, and as the SUV slowed up behind the car, the pumper truck, came around the corner and struck the back left side of the SUV. Troopers said village fire driver Dave Martelle wasn't able to stop in time.

No injuries were reported, and no tickets have been issued so far.

Village Manager John Sweeney said the village mechanic is evaluating the damage to the fire truck, though he didn't think it was major.
