Harvest dinner Oct. 14

St. John in the Wilderness Episcopal Church will have their harvest dinner 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14 in the church hall. The meal will be a pork roast meal with all the trimmings, desert and beverage. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Take out will be available by calling Sister Carol at 891-2286.

There will be a card party held at St. John in the Wilderness church hall at 1 p.m. on the third Sunday in October. Come and enjoy.


The bookmobile will be at the Lake Clear post office parking lot from 11 to 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11. I would suggest that everyone partake of this wonderful free service that is provided to the out-lining communities as it won't be around much longer. The price of gas.


Hohmeyer's Lake Clear Lodge and Retreat has a Philosopher Pub night 7 p.m. every Friday with different speakers. Sept. 30 will be "Wings on the Move" with Brian McAllister. Oct. 7 will be "Coexisting with Bears" with Don Stunzi. Plan to attend this informative programs and enjoy. Please call 891-1489 to make reservations for the meal.


Please don't forget, the Methodist church will be holding their fall rummage sale 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29 and Friday, Sept. 30 and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 1. The next evening meal at the Adult Center will be 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19. The meal will be meatloaf, baked potatoes, carrots, salad bar and pinapple upside down cake. The cost is $5 per person. Please call 891-2980 to make reservations.

The Adult Center will offer a cruise on the Caribbean Princess for eight days and seven nights on Sept. 15-22, 2012. Starting in New York City stops on this cruise will be Halifax, Nova Scotia; Saint John, New Brunswick; Bar Harbor, Maine; Boston, Mass., Newport, R.I.; and back to New York City. The Women of the Moose and the American Legion Auxiliary would like to thank everyone who attended or ordered out a meal from the benefit dinner for Mya Durprey. It was a great success and your help was appreciated.

The Masons would like to thank everyone who attended the benefit dinner for Rusty Knobel. A special thank you to Roy Hurd for the great show he put on that evening. The dinner was a huge success and everyone's help was appreciated.



There will be a Southern Gospel Hymn sing 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16 at the Bloomingdale Methodist church. Coming from Lake Placid Walter and Virginia Haselton will be leading the singing. Just a reminder that Ruth Hoyt is in Uihlein in room 301 and could use a friendly visit from some of her friends. Gould Hoyt will be starting his treatments and could use some words of encouragement. The same goes for son Ed, who still has back problems.

St. Pauls/Assumption/Town of Brighton Food Pantry will be open from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6. This is located in the Brighton town park new building.

There will be available food, gently used household and clothing items.

There are bins at the food pantry site that will accept returnable bottles and cans. This helps to support the food pantry. Please no garbage in the bins. Thank you for your support. Call Barbara Marshall at 327-3297 for more information.

Lake Clear sends their sympathy to the family of Laurence "Swisher" Gilbertson with his passing. Swisher and his late wife Marilyn resided in Lake Clear along with their daughter Kristin. Swisher enjoyed the area, especially fishing.
