Flooding starts to close roads into central NY

September 8, 2011

ALBANY (AP) - Flooding that has slammed New York state from the Adirondacks to the Catskills is now starting to close roads farther west into central New York.

State officials this morning closed several highways and roads to and around major highways in Herkimer, Oneida and Madison counties as far west as the city of Oneida.

The closings include part of Route 365A near the city of Oneida and Route 5 between the Montgomery County line and Fonda.

Local road closures extended to the Interstate 81 corridor north of Binghamton, as well as along parts of Interstate 88 and nearby roads in Otsego, Delaware and Chenango counties.

A stretch of Route 17 along the Susquehanna Rivera on the Pennsylvania border west of Binghamton is closed between Exits 61 and 62 in Tioga County.
