ALBANY (AP) - Members of New York's Congressional delegation have introduced legislation to help farmers devastated by Tropical Storm Irene.
Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Charles Schumer on Wednesday introduced legislation that would authorize $10 million to support programs that provide emergency services and resources to farm areas after natural disasters.
The New York House members who introduced the bill, titled the Post-Irene Emergency Farm Aid Act, are Chris Gibson, Maurice Hinchey, Paul Tonko and Bill Owens.
New York Farm Bureau President Dean Norton said the bill, if passed, will go a long way to restore fertile soils washed away by Irene's floods.
