Skate to help support those affected by Tropical Storm Irene

September 7, 2011
Adirondack Daily Enterprise

LAKE PLACID - Tropical Storm Irene swept through the Adirondacks recently, and although Lake Placid made it through the storm relatively unscathed, many of its neighbors and loved ones in the surrounding areas have experienced significant damages.

The New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority will be working together with the American Red Cross and Centerplate to host a fundraising event from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, with all proceeds benefiting the North Country Chapter of the American Red Cross.

The North Country Chapter was chartered in 1916 by Ada Rogers, of Ausable Forks, relative of Jim Rogers, a native of Lake Placid. This chapter serves 13 northern townships of Essex County and provides shelter, food, clothing, medical supplies, clean-up kits, mental health support and other disaster support to those in need.

The Saturday event will be a carnival like atmosphere and will include fun activities for the whole family.

Tickets will be sold for public skating, hockey shots, curling and Zamboni rides. Plus there will be food and music.
