High wind warning in effect

April 28, 2011

The National Weather Service has issued a high-wind warning for Franklin and St. Lawrence counties in effect until 8 p.m. tonight.

It warns of southwest winds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 65 mph. The gusts will increase this afternoon and decrease later in the evening.

Sustained winds of 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph can lead to property damage, according to the National Weather Service. It says there is potential for power lines, trees and tree limbs and branches to come down. Trees could come down because the heavy rains since Tuesday night have loosened the ground soil.
