To the editor:
As a summer resident of Upper Saranac Lake and as a former employee of the Girl Scout camp back in the '70s, I still remember as if it was yesterday listening to the campers say, "Look, there is the yellow boat," which I would take to work there every day. I would hear it for years; it's the yellow boat that followed my employment. It was the best summer job ever.
For many years to follow, I could sit on my dock and look across to Eagle Island and see the campers sailing, swimming, learning to water ski and much more. Every night you would hear the campers laughing and enjoying themselves. Now it is silent: no noise, no campers and no fun. This is a place that should stay as a camp forever, and as such, I know that I am donating to help buy the island back for use as the camp that was and should be its intended use.
I urge everyone, whether you have a child or not or if you know of a child who is or was a Scout, to help in this endeavor to save this great place and keep it as a camp.
