Williams named player of the week

SARANAC LAKE - North Country Community College sophomore guard Dejanaye Williams was named the Region III Player of the Week for her play last week.

Williams, who is from Wilmington, Del., has been a starting guard for the Saints for two seasons. This past week, she led the Saints to three victories, beating Clinton, Schenectady and Herkimer. In those three games, Williams averaged 13 points, 7.5 rebounds and three steals per game, providing her team with intensity and communication on the court.

The Saints women open Region III tournament play Friday at 8 p.m. against Clinton at Tompkins-Cortland CC. The winner will play on Saturday at 1 p.m. against the winner of Onondaga and Corning.

The North Country men will take on Mohawk Valley at 1 p.m. Friday in Watertown to open its Region III tournament.
