ALBANY - Assemblywomen Janet Duprey and Teresa Sayward joined the Republican Assembly Conference in hosting its second annual Sportsmen and Outdoor Recreation Legislative Awareness Day in Albany.

Duprey and Sayward greeted thousands of outdoor enthusiasts, sporting groups and legislative activists from across the state. The gathering has become a yearly tradition highlighting hunting, fishing, and outdoor recreation.

"Today's event was a wonderful opportunity for sportsmen's groups from around our state to meet with their legislators and discuss the important role outdoor sports play in our local economic development," Duprey said in a news release. "With hunting, fishing, trapping, and other outdoor recreation contributing more than $6 billion annually to our state's economy, this event helps to showcase the positive impact that outdoor sports directly have on the North Country."

"Outdoor activities play a huge role in the lives of people throughout the North Country and are integral to maintaining our tourism industry," Sayward said in the release. "I have voted against license and fee hikes for sportsmen in the past, and will continue to fight for the rights of outdoor enthusiasts. From snowmobiling and trail-riding to hunting and fishing, protecting the rights of New Yorkers to enjoy the great outdoors is vital to preserving our culture."
