Time Warner phone customers report problems

January 18, 2011
By CHRIS KNIGHT, Enterprise Senior Staff Writer

SARANAC LAKE - Time Warner Cable is trying to repair a problem with its digital phone service that's affecting customers across the state, including here in the Tri-Lakes.

Time Warner customers have reported getting busy signals when they try to make phone calls, and people trying to call Time Warner customers have also been unable to connect. The phone rings once; then a recorded message says, "Due to telephone company facility trouble, your call cannot be completed at this time."

Lakeview Deli in Saranac Lake posted a message on its Facebook page just before noon, advising its customers to call in their lunch orders using a cell phone number because of the problems with its main phone line. Owner John Van Anden said he normally gets 30 to 40 calls around the lunch hour; today he got only four.

"It hurt (business) quite a bit just because you can't get phone calls from customers," he said.

The Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce also posted Facebook messages saying its phones weren't working properly because of problems with Time Warner's service. Several local residents contacted the Enterprise to report the same issues.

Time Warner spokeswoman Stephanie Salanger said in an e-mail that the company's network engineers are "working diligently" to get the problem resolved. She described it as an "intermittent digital phone outage" and said it's affecting Time Warner customers across the state.
