RICHMOND, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont office of a national environmental group is asking the Interior Department to protect a rare mountain songbird called the Bicknell's thrush under the Endangered Species Act.
The Center for Biological Diversity says the Bicknell's thrush is under threat from climate change.
The Bicknell's thrush nests in coniferous forests at high altitude in the Adirondacks, the mountains of northern New England and eastern Canada. The species winters in the Caribbean.
Experts say climate change is threatening the species' habitat and its numbers are shrinking.
The Canadian government lists the Bicknell's thrush as threatened.
Nationally, the center is also seeking protection for three other mountain species.
