July 8, 2010
Adirondack Daily Enterprise

SARANAC LAKE - The public is invited to attend a special ceremony honoring Lake Placid's beloved adopted daughter, Kate Smith, in the Main Lobby of AMC-Uihlein.

There will be a special unveiling of a commemorative Kate Smith stamp and plaque to mark the recent issuance of the stamp by the United States Post Office. The ceremony will take place at 3:15 p.m. on Friday, July 9 in the Main Lobby of AMC-Uihlein on 185 Old Military Road in Lake Placid.

Miss Smith and her vibrant voice best known for the stirring rendition of "God Bless America" is perhaps one of the most popular singers of the 20th Century. She was a long time summer resident of Lake Placid, and her music continues to benefit Saint Agnes Church and AMC-Uihlein. The auditorium at AMC-Uihlein bears her name to this day.

The event is open to the public, free of charge.
