SARANAC LAKE - Adirondack Medical Center President and Chief Executive Officer Chandler Ralph will be recognized as a New York State Senate Woman of Distinction at a ceremony in Albany later this month, state Sen. Betty Little announced Friday.

Ralph will be one of approximately 60 women from across the state to be honored for their achievements in business, academia and civic life.

"Most people know Chandler for all she's doing to ensure high-quality health care in the North Country," Little said in a news release. "But her concern for others goes far beyond our region.

"As the founder of the Helena Ptochia Foundation, Chandler is doing something incredible in Ghana, West Africa to help woman suffering from obstetric fistulas. Women suffering from this painful condition, which occurs while delivering a baby, are often abandoned by their husbands and ostracized by other villagers. With proper care, these women can recover. Chandler's foundation and work, including traveling to Africa, is bringing hope to thousands of women."

The event will be held Tuesday, May 25 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Legislative Office Building in Albany.
