Both Tupper Lake and Saranac Lake's village cleanup days will be Saturday, May 15 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
In Saranac Lake, participants should meet at the Berkeley Green and bring rakes and gloves. Lunch will be at noon with hot dogs grilled by Mayor Clyde Rabideau. Past mayors have also manned the grills for village cleanup lunches.
After lunch the cleanup will resume until 2 p.m.
The Women's Civic Chamber is coordinating the cleanup. If it's rained out, it will start at noon on Sunday, May 16, with no stop time specified; there will be food.
The Women's Civic Chamber started the annual cleanup decades ago, said Barbara Martin, then stopped for a while. It started up again about 10 years ago.
The village of Tupper Lake is asking all community-minded volunteers to meet at 8:45 a.m. that Saturday in the civic center parking lot on the corner of Santa Clara and McLaughlin avenues.
Bags and gloves will be provided, and volunteers are invited to a pizza lunch at noon at Little Italy on Park Street.
Tupper Lake school students and the local Students Against Destructive Decisions group will help with village cleanup Thursday and Friday, May 13 and 14, during their physical education classes.
