APA to discuss Keene cell tower, W’ton hotel development, Jay wilderness plan
RAY BROOK - The state Adirondack Park Agency will hold its monthly meeting Thursday and Friday to discuss a number of matters, including a proposed telecommunication tower in Keene.
The full agency convenes at 9 a.m. Thursday for Executive Director Terry Martino's report, and at 10 a.m. the Regulatory Programs Committee will meet to discuss Verizon Wireless's application to build a telecommunication tower behind the Neighborhood House on the east side of state Route 73 (Main Street) in Keene Valley. The proposed 129-foot tower would be designed as a simulated white pine tree.
The committee will also deliberate an application from the town of Lake Luzerne to use the herbicide Triclopyr to control Eurasian watermilfoil in Lake Luzerne. The town proposes to apply 1,560 pounds of the granular formulation of Renovate to an 11-acre area of Lake Luzerne known as the "South End."
The committee will also consider the Whiteface Overlook proposal in Wilmington. This project involves conversion of a pre-existing resort hotel structure into three new structures, each containing four three-bedroom dwelling units. The project site is next to state Route 86, across the highway from Whiteface Mountain Ski Center.
At 1 p.m. the State Land Committee will hear a statewide fire tower study presentation from state Department of Environmental Conservation staff. The committee will also receive informational presentations on the proposed Jay Mountain Wilderness Area Unit Management Plan and the Hurricane Mountain Primitive Area UMP. All presentations are informational and the committee will take no action on these matters this month.
At 4 p.m. Thursday, the full agency will convene to take action as necessary and conclude the Thursday session with committee reports, public and member comment.
On Friday at 9 a.m., the Economic Affairs Committee will hear a presentation from Tim Tierney, executive director of Kingdom Trails Association of East Burke, Vt., on economic development opportunities related to mountain biking. The Kingdom Trails Association manages an extensive multi-use trail system for summer and winter recreation which generates economy benefits for the Northeast Kingdom area of Vermont.
The February meeting will conclude after a 10 a.m. presentation from state Department of Transportation Region 2 Director Michael Shamma on Adirondack Park signage.

I think cell tower in Keene is a good idea, but I don't know about a hotel across from The Whiteface Mountain Ski Center they would have figure out away for hotel parking and making it safe to cross the route 86 like building a foot bridge.

Sounds like the rich folk in Keene Valley need their celly's. 130' Frankenpine behind the old folks home totally invisable. Too bad the people in Gabriels aren't rich otherwise they wouldn't have to drive to use their ceells.

People monitoring the APA's behavior should listen to Fred Dicker's radio interview with Sandy Lewis, who recently won a legal battle with APA. Here is the link. The Sandy Lewis portion starts 26 minutes along: *******talk1300****/CMT/podcast/FridayFebruary052010.mp3
