LAKE PLACID - The Lake Placid Central School District has completed interviews of six candidates in the search for a new superintendent to take the place of interim Ernest Witkowski.
Candidates were interviewed by a committee, two a day, on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
The school board is scheduled to meet on Thursday. None of the board members were available for comment as of press time.
The superintendent position became vacant this summer when James Donnelly resigned abruptly after 13 months on the job. The school board hasn't commented publicly on the circumstances surrounding his resignation but agreed to a separation agreement with him in which the district will continue paying his $135,000 salary until April 30, 2010 or until he secures employment with an equal or greater salary.
Ernest Stretton, who preceded Donnelly as superintendent, was hired to fill in as interim superintendent for a short period, but he had a prior commitment and was replaced by Witkowski.
