Morrisonville man killed in Waverly snowmobile crash

January 8, 2010
By CHRIS KNIGHT, Enterprise Senior Staff Writer

A Clinton County man was killed after his snowmobile crashed into a dump truck on a remote road in the town of Waverly on Thursday.

Christopher Macey, 53, of Morrisonville, was driving a 2009 Bombardier snowmobile north on the Blue Mountain Road around 11 a.m. when his sled approached a 1995 International dump truck heading in the opposite direction, according to state police Investigator Charles Bishop.

"The two vehicles met in a sharp curve, and Macey was unable to avoid striking the rear of the oncoming dump truck," Bishop said.

Macey was ejected from the snowmobile. He was transported by St. Regis Falls Rescue to Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed later today to determine his cause of death.

Bishop said Macey was traveling with a group of four other snowmobilers. No one else, including the dump truck driver, was injured, he said. No tickets were issued.

The accident happened about 10.5 miles south of state Route 458.

State police were assisted in the investigation by forest rangers from the state Department of Environmental Conservation.
