GOUVERNEUR - Canton-based state police have arrested a woman who, they say, stole almost $45,000 from an estate of which she was executor.
Katherine M. Johnson, 55, of Gouverneur, was arrested Wednesday and charged with third-degree grand larceny. She was arraigned before Gouverneur town Justice John Riordan and released under the supervision of the St. Lawrence County Probation Department.
Police said they started to investigate regarding the estate of Howard W. Fleming at the request of St. Lawrence County Surrogate's Court. Johnson allegedly stole about $44,771 from the estate between September 2006 and October 2008.
